Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and Sasakura to Receive Order for Project to Expand the Existing Shuaiba Phase 2 Seawater Desalination Plant in Saudi Arabia

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter ¡°Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¡±) announced today that Ï㽶ÊÓƵ and Sasakura Engineering Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Osaka, Osaka Prefecture; Toshihiko Sasakura, President; hereinafter ¡°Sasakura¡±) have obtained confirmation that the Arabian Company and Sasakura for Water & Power (headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; hereinafter ¡°APS¡±), a joint venture with local capital in the Kingdom will receive an order for a full turnkey project to expand the existing Shuaiba Phase 2 Seawater Desalination Plant of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (hereinafter ¡°SWCC¡±) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The order, which totals US$120 million (approximately 14 billion yen), represents the next large order received in Saudi Arabia following the one for the restoration of a seawater desalination plant received last September. It is multi-effect distillation with thermal vapor compression (MED-TVC) type desalination plant that has a daily capacity of 91,200 metric tons per unit, making it one of the largest plants of its kind in the world. The tender was bidden last June, for which APS and two other companies made bids. ASP ultimately won the bid. The technological strengths of APS and Sasakura were highly rated by SWCC in its review of the bids, offering greater water volume generation and energy saving performance than the competitors.
