Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ Announces CO2 Emission Reduction Effort through Solar Power Panels in Indonesia

Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Masahiro Okafuji, President & CEO; hereinafter ¡°Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ¡±) announced today that it will participate with PT. AEON MALL INDONESIA in the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) project in Indonesia and install solar panels and storage batteries manufactured by Panasonic Corporation on the rooftops of the soon-to-open Aeon Mall Jakarta Garden City, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. The project involves the largest amount of solar power generation by a commercial facility in the country. The generated electricity will be supplied to the lighting facilities in the stores. The surplus electricity generated during the day will be saved in the storage batteries and used at night. Efficient utilization of the surplus electricity through the storage batteries is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 550 tons per year.
JCM is a carbon offset mechanism initiated by the Japanese government, whereby Japanese companies provide developing countries with technologies, products and services related to greenhouse gas emissions reduction in return for carbon credits. Japan can count these credits toward the reduction of its own greenhouse gas emissions.
Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ will actively promote the distributed and self-consumption power generation industry globally. It will thereby contribute to the formation of a recycling-oriented society, while taking into account environmental conservation issues such as the prevention of global warming.
