Plant Project

From Conventional Large-Scale Project Development to Future Energy Initiatives

In the plant project field, we bring to bear the comprehensive strengths of a trading company, including information gathering and development capabilities, project finance capability, and coordinate function between related parties obtained through involvement in international projects over many years. We are involved in projects such as seawater desalination plants, water supply and sewerage facilities, water and environment-related businesses such as power generation from waste, renewable and alternative energy projects including geothermal, wind and solar power generation; electric power- related services, social and transportation infrastructure such as railways, bridges, ports, and chemical plants. We have also branched out into project development, project finance, project investment, M&A, and operation and maintenance for plant facilities in countries all over the world.
We also undertake EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) projects, where we take charge of plant construction in collaboration with heavy industry, heavy electric machinery, engineering and construction companies.

Water Resources?Environment

We are actively expanding water and environment-related businesses, which are positioned as a top priority sector. In the seawater desalination field, we are involved in large seawater desalination projects in Australia and Oman. In the water supply sector, we invested in supply services provided by Bristol Water, a British company providing a full range of services from water source management to billing.
In the environment field, we are involved in energy-from-waste projects in the UK, Serbia and Dubai and the industrial waste disposal business in Saudi Arabia, and we are also planning to actively expand business in Japan and the wider Asia region in the future.

Electric Power

Ï㽶ÊÓƵ promotes a global decarbonization business (e.g., renewable energy, ammonia, hydrogen) as well as the thermal IPP (Independent Power Producer) business. We have grown the business in this market to integrate multi-function such as investment, engineering, construction, operation and maintenance (O&M), equipment maintenance and development. Development is especially our core function. Among these, we are very active in the renewable businesses including wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, biomass and other sources of renewable energy. We target to increase the share of owned renewable generation capacity of total from 16% to over 20% by FY2030.

Transportation and Infrastructure

To cater to growing demand for railways, bridges, ports, airport facilities and other forms of infrastructure, particularly in emerging countries, we are promoting projects in collaboration with Japanese and overseas manufacturers and operators.
In the railway sector, we secured a public-private partnership (PPP) contract to provide trains to the government of Queensland, Australia in 2014, and have already begun commercial operations.
In the port sector, we participated (signed contract in 2011) in the Lach Huyen Port project, the first PPP project in Vietnam, and the port opened in 2018. In the bridge sector, Turkey¡¯s longest suspension bridge, the Izmit Bay Bridge (for which we signed a contract in 2011) opened in 2016.

Chemical plants

Our projects involving oil and gas production facilities, refineries, chemical plants, energy infrastructure and other facilities are under way around the world, mainly in oil-producing countries and emerging countries. Through collaboration with engineering firms and plant equipment manufacturers in Japan and overseas, we demonstrate diverse capabilities, spanning project formation, EPC, the export of equipment, the arrangement of finance and the coordination of raw materials supply and off-taking of final products, thus contributing to the realization of projects which support the growth of emerging economies. As the movement toward a decarbonized society accelerates, we are also working on plant businesses related to hydrogen and ammonia and in the area of recycling.

Marine

Supporting International Shipping

Leading the international market, the Japanese shipbuilding industry is responsible for nearly 20% of the world¡¯s ship construction. Against this background, we fully utilize our trading company functions to comprehensively provide solutions with high added value, such as intermediary transactions of newbuilding and second-hand ships, ship financing, ship owning and ship chartering transactions. Further, we have established a remarkable track record with ship owners and operators in western countries, Asia, Japan, Latin America, the Middle East and all other parts of the world. Today, our transactions with Japanese, Korean and Chinese shipyards are expanding. Aside from transactions for the sale and purchase of newbuilding and second-hand ships, we also own and operate our own ships and are actively committed to the development of energy resources through projects for the transportation of LNG, LPG and similar materials and the FPSO (floating production storage and offloading unit) business. We are also developing ammonia value chains centered on the development of ammonia-fueled ships for the decarbonizing international shipping.

In collaboration with a prominent group in the maritime industry (ship operators, publishers, trading companies etc.) in Japan and Asia, we have established MarineNet Co., Ltd. This company operates Marine Net, the first portal site for the shipping and shipbuilding industries in Japan, and provides maritime industry with consulting services that include the distribution of shipping and shipbuilding related information and ship valuation.

Aerospace

Operating aerospace-related businesses for government and the commercial sector

In the field of aerospace, we are expanding our businesses in areas related to defense, commercial airline, aircraft leasing, space and security based on the excellent relationships we have built over many years with aerospace companies with world-leading advanced technological capabilities. These companies include The Boeing Company, Raytheon Company, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Northrop Grumman Corporation, and Honeywell International Inc.
With Ï㽶ÊÓƵ at the core, the group companies, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Aviation Co., Ltd. and Japan Aerospace Corporation in Japan, Ï㽶ÊÓƵ Aviation, Inc. and JAC USA in the United States undertake marketing and contract implementation in the field of defense and government business as well as private/business aircraft business. In the commercial airline business, we identify market needs in a wide range of business areas and provide solutions such as the aircraft aftermarket business through Killick Aerospace Limited and the aircraft leasing business. In recent years, we have also engaged in market creation for next-generation aviation in line with a zero-carbon society.
